At the 2010 annual general meeting of the Canadian Volunteer Fire Services Association (CVFSA) the number one concern was the recruitment and retention of volunteer and paid volunteer fire fighters and medical first responders. Most municipalities in Canada depend on the professional services of volunteer fire fighters. What if you called your local fire department and no came to your assistance? This is an event that will occur real soon in many rural communities if the community at large does not do something to help with recruitment and retention.
